More Gig News
We’ve been in the studio (Newmarket) with Ben Hurt recording our tribute to the late (and great) Maurice Frawley.
We recorded our version of Maurice’s ‘Dark Side of Sunday’ off his last Maurice Frawley and the Yard Hands album ‘Good Things’. The song was recorded live to (and mixed from) 2inch tape. We are really happy with it, It’s got a big warm and fat sound! Stay tuned for news on how you can get a copy! And don’t forget the gig on Sunday with Darwin’s Cooperblack.
Studio News
‘Tickertape’ is the first release off forthcoming album (September). Single ‘Tickertape’ will be officially launched on Sunday July 18, at Melbourne’s famed East Brunswick Club, in a special matinee show. Support act will be the luscious Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors in intmate ‘duo mode’.
‘Tickertape’ – along with B-Side ‘Dark Side Of Sunday’ – will be available (July18) as a free download from www.myspace.com/stevelaneandtheautocrats. ‘Dark Side of Sunday’ is a gutsy, poetic cover of a song by the legendary, late Australian musician, Maurice Frawley.
Single Launch
Our first single, ‘Tickertape’ is now available free for download from here. You can also download it from our sonicbids site, facebook and myspace pages.
Maurice Frawley’s Dark Side of Sunday is also available as a free mp3 download (for a limited time) as a tribute to this great and unsung Australian songwriter.(Thanks to the Frawley family)
Thanks again to all who came to the launch ... it was a buzz!
TICKERTAPE released
A new year is upon us .....time to wake up that ol’ sleeping autocratic beast and get out amongst it!
Since we last talked, the Autocrats have been busy with day jobs and other projects.
Lead Autocrat, Steve has just seen the release of a compilation of 14 songs written, recorded, mixed and produced with young people in the Victorian Bushfire Communities called ‘Change Has Come’.
Drummer Dave has been traversing the continent as part of Dan Kelly’s Dream Band and with Deb Conway.
And, if you are going to the Big Day Out this year, keep an eye out for Edmondo and Dave in Paul Dempsey’s Band.
We have though, managed to get together and finnish the recordings for our debut album ‘The Romance of Communication‘ More news to follow very shortly!
And we’ve got gigs lined up too.
Next week sees the Autocrats reveal their ‘sensitive’ side at the Newstead Live Festival. Our main gig is in the legendary Troubadour Wine tent at 10:30pm on Saturday 22nd Jan. The Trouby is a favourite venue at festivals including Port Fairy, Woodford and The National.
Then, in March (Labour Day Weekend) we play the Lake Mountain Festival with such acts as The Re-Mains and Mick Thomas in the natural amphitheatre. That weekend is completed with a return to the East Brunswick Club.... more about that soon ..... keep posted!
2011 off and running!
Footstomp Music’s Graham ‘Asho’ Ashton joins us today to project manage the launch of our debut album ‘The Romance Of Communication’.
We’re are lucky to have Asho on board the Ol’ Autocratic express as he endeavours to find ‘champions’ for the band and album.
We’ve already got some great feedback from some luminaries of the Australian Music Industry ... stay tuned!
Footstompin’ Autocrats!
Momentum is building towards our album release .... we are trying to make as much noise as possible!

It was shot at the Bakehouse Rehearsal Studio’s in Richmond...... once again filmed by the wonderful Megan Spencer.
